St. Mary’s School Board Minutes

July 12, 2006

Janet Fletcher called the meeting to order, and Father Nigli began with an opening prayer. Board Members present were Janet Fletcher, Lawrence Reiman, Merri Schneider, John Boyle, Gene Soukup, and Luann Shields, along with Father Nigli and Norm Hale. Board members absent were Mel Ohri, Dian Edwards and Sharon Spencer.

Guests were recognized and invited to speak. Camille Ohri addressed the Board regarding the Teammates Mentoring Program. This program consists of an adult mentor matched with a student and spending one hour per week together. In this time, they are to help the student set goals, do homework, play games, etc. The program complements Big Pal/Little Pal, although BP/LP only matches students with an adult through 6^th grade, and Teammates continues from 7 through 12^th grades. There are 70+ communities involved, touching over 2,400 students. O’Neill Public School approved this program for their school last fall. Camille wanted to share the information and asked for St. Mary’s to also approve the program. Gene Soukup made a motion to approve the Teammates Mentoring Program. Seconded by Luann Shields. All in favor, none opposed.

There was no formal agenda for this meeting, as the meeting was called in order to review the revisions/additions to the Coaches Handbook and High School Handbook. The Board reviewed the Coaches Handbook and the Student Handbook, and will have a smaller group (Merri Schneider and Janet Fletcher) review and make final revisions before August.

Meeting was adjourned with a closing prayer led by Father Nigli.
