St. Mary’s School Board Minutes

May 10, 2006

Guests:  Forrest Peetz, Melanie Peetz, Candy Conradt, Jane Reiman

Janet Fletcher called the meeting to order, and Father Nigli started with an opening prayer.  All Board Members were present, including Janet Fletcher, Lawrence Reiman, Merri Schneider, John Boyle, Gene Soukup, Luann Shields, Hugh Shoemaker, Mel Ohri and Sharon Spencer, along with Father Nigli and Alice Marx.

Guests were recognized and invited to speak.   Melanie Peetz addressed the board regarding the dance team tryouts, and a clarification of the method which was used for scoring the potential members.  The method which they have used for the past three years while Melanie was the sponsor, (and was used by prior sponsors) is as follows:  They have four judges, and the dancers are scored based on three different areas.  All scores are tallied at the end of the tryouts, and if there is a difference of 50 points in potential team members, that is where the cutoff is for the new team.  The sponsor then calls each of the students specifically to mention what they could work on, and encourages anyone who does not make the team to try out again the next year.

Jane Reiman addressed the board regarding cheerleading.  They have 8 girls on the cheerleading squad for next year.  They will need to order 3 more uniforms at $126.00 each, to have enough for the squad.  Jane has asked to have Rachel Burton take over the sponsorship of cheerleading.  Rachel was a cheerleader in high school in Yankton, and has many ideas for the cheerleaders.  This position receives a stipend.

Motion by Gene Soukup with 2nd by Lawrence Reiman, to approve of Rachel Burton as the new cheerleading sponsor.   Vote carried with no opposition.

John Boyle made a motion to approve the agenda,  2nd by Gene Soukup.  Vote: All in favor, none opposed.

Gene Soukup made a motion to approve the minutes of the April 19, 2006 meeting, with noted corrections, 2nd by Mel Ohri.  Vote:  All in favor, none opposed.
