SIXTH SUNDAY EASTER
HOLY
COMMUNION, -
“What
wondrous love is this?”
“If you wonder how, I will explain
in clear language. Faith is the womb
that conceives this new life, baptism the rebirth by which it is brought forth
into the light of day. The Church is its
nurse; her teachings are its milk, the Bread from Heaven is its food. It is brought to maturity by the practice of
virtue; it is wedded to wisdom; it
gives birth to hope. Its home is the
kingdom; its rich inheritance the joys
of paradise; its end, not death, but the blessed and everlasting life prepared
for those who are worthy.”
(From a sermon by
Saint Gregory of Nyssa, bishop. Oratio 1 in Chrisit resurrectionem: Jaeger
IX, 277-280, 305)
Our parish this weekend joyfully
welcomes our young second grade students to the Banquet of the Lord. They have been preparing with their teacher, Mrs. Margaret Fuchser and their parents all through the year for their
First Holy Communion. I was delighted with
the confidence and knowledge they exhibited when questioned on the Real
Presence of Jesus under the
auspices of the Blessed Sacrament.
It is a momentous milestone in their faith journey. While we all support them with our prayers,
let us also pray for their parents, godparents and grandparents to place the
accent on the undeniable importance of receiving the Eucharist every
weekend. May this First Communion with the Body, Blood, Soul and
Divinity of Jesus create an insatiable longing to receive the Eucharist all the
days of their lives.
CONGRATULATIONS, FIRST
COMMUNICANTS!!
