LENT’S Here!
Make Your Special Spiritual Plans for
PRAYER, FASTING & CHARITY
After a short 21 days of Ordinary Time
since the close of the Christmas season, we are on the threshold of the 40 days
of Lent.
The season of Lent begins on this coming
Wednesday, February 6 and will
conclude with the Holy Triduum that begins on Holy
Thursday, March 20th with the celebration of the Lord’s Supper.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
A) ALL FRIDAYS OF LENT are days of
ABSTAINENCE from EATING MEAT for those 14 YEARS & OLDER.
B) ONLY ASH WEDNESDAY & GOOD FRIDAY
are days of both FASTING & ABSTAINENCE from meat. Fasting means that we have ONE FULL MEAL and
only a little nourishment to maintain strength for one’s daily work. No eating or snacks between. Fasting is obligatory for those from 18 to 60
years old. (Only grave medical reasons
allow for any exemption!)
C) Practices of increased prayer, daily Mass or adoration; self-sacrifices on food, TV time or other pleasures and gifts of alms in charity, invigorate, energize and enliven our body and soul. They help us to overcome and resist Satan, sin and temptation and give a tremendous boost to our spiritual immune system, our faith & moral virtues.
