February 19, 1891 - First St. Mary’s Academy destroyed by fire before it was occupied. Large crowds gathered in the snow helpless to prevent the destruction of the school. On the right is the rectory. Firemen with buckets can be seen pouring water on the rectory roof, which prevented it, and the church next door, from being damaged.
